  • aka: Henoch-Schonlein purpura, anaphylactoid purpura,
  • kids with purpura, arthritis, abdominal pain and renal symptoms due to IgA deposition - confirm with skin (vasculitis) and renal (mesangial deposition) biopsy
  • kids, purpura, arthritis, GI (abd pain, bleed, n/v, constip/diar), renal (proteinuria, hematuria, esp adults)
  • purpura (lower extremity), arthritis (esp ankle, knee, elbow), abdominal pain, hypertension
  • skin biopsy (vasculitis with IgA deposition),renal biopsy (mesangial IgA deposition), renal (adults, proteinuria, hematuria)
  • IgA immune complex deposit on vessel walls (vasculitis, mesangial). Purpura location associated with gravity (legs if ambulatory, trunk if bedridden).
  • abd pain = surgery if intussusception. Purpura will spontaneously resolve. Symptomatic relief = NSAIDs.
