  • VSD
  • aka: Ventricular septal defect,
  • holosystolic murmur, cardiomegaly, dx w doppler echo
  • CHF (failure to thrive in peds), pulm dz, freq lower resp infections
  • holosystolic murmur, systolic thrill, diastolic rumble (vol overload across mitral valve)
  • doppler echo reveals interventricular flow, cardiomegaly (LA↑, LV↑, RV↑), enlarged pulm arteries w peripheral tapering (CXR)
  • shunting of blood LV → RV → pulm artery. Volume overload for LA, LV, RV, Pulm.
  • surgery if severe or symptomatic. Watch for Eisenmenger syndrome if pulm resistance reverses shunt direction
